Where Did Summer 2000 go? We made the serious mistake of going away for the entire month of July and I don’t think we will ever catch up. That is my way of explaining why our Summer Newsletter is arriving just ahead of the beginning of our Fall season. |

REPORT OF ANNUAL MEETING State Assemblyman, Ken Bernhard brought a bit of good news to us. The legislature passed a total of $214 million in tax cuts. $.07 off the gasoline tax, the gift tax to be phased out in the year 2007, the inheritance tax to be phased out in 2006. The surplus has declined somewhat. Surplus dollars will be used fur the purchase of open space, school construction, hospitals and Adrian’s Landing--a $1 billion redevelopment In Hartford! The Nominating Committee, under the able hand of Hal Levy put forth the names of Birthe Shwisha, John Gosselin and Hal Levy for new terms as Directors. The slate was seconded by Christine Stonbely and unanimously elected. |
Gavin Anderson, a newly elected Board of Finance member and a past member of Green's Farms Board of Directors, told us about financial activities and processes. Among those subjects was anticipation of the new tax mill rate, which is expected to be about 16 mills, based on recent re-evaluations. Gavin also talked of his years as a member of the Green's Farms Association, what he enjoyed of that experience and of the importance of residents belonging to and participating in and supporting their Association. Barbara and Alan Raymond, noted Westport Historians, provided the highlight of the afternoon with their most informative, entertaining and colorful History of the Green's Farms area of Westport. Gary Seevers, of Morningside Drive S., wanted to know why the Martha Stewart permit question was not one of the many items addressed in our Spring Newsletter. The response from the Chair Explained matters of lead time in the preparation, printing and distribution. Other members posed questions and offered additional comments about the granting of a Special Permit. William Crowther, a Green's Farms resident, and a P&Z Commission member explained his viewpoint of those regulations DOWNSIDE!... A Very Sparse Member Turnout. |
